New Patient Information
Appointments are booked often months in advance. We usually advise you to allow 1.5 – 2 hours for a standard appointment. We attempt to accommodate urgent problems that require immediate attention.
Medicare requires that you have a current referral to enable you to claim your rebate. Referrals from a specialist last 3 months whilst referrals from a GP or Optometrist last 12 months. It is your responsibility to always have a current referral to cover the date of the consultation.
Consultations will vary in length depending on the nature of the issue. Some may only take a few minutes whilst others may take substantially longer.
Initially, you will be seen by an Orthoptist who will note relevant medical history and perform various ophthalmic tests. Drops to dilate the pupils may be used and these take around 30 minutes to fully dilate the pupil before being seen by the Doctor. During this time please feel free to leave the waiting room (perhaps to visit the wonderful park beside our building or the cafés on the lower ground floor).
We advise NOT to drive after having dilating drops or any procedure.
Sunglasses are also encouraged to assist with glare.
These are private consulting rooms and fees are due to be paid on the day of the consultation. There is no discounting for health care/pension cards. We will endeavour to submit your claim to Medicare on your behalf.
We accept all debit cards and Mastercard and Visa credit cards.
Laser treatment is often an important part of the comprehensive treatment of glaucoma and post-cataract care. Lasers (SLT / Iridotomy / Capsulotomy) are usually performed during your appointment (especially for patients coming from outer metropolitan and regional areas). Please allow at least 2 hours if laser treatment is planned.
If you require an operation, this will be fully discussed with you. Details of the operation/fasting instructions and quote will be forwarded to you before the procedure. If you do not have private insurance to cover operations please discuss this with the Doctor. Operations are usually billed at the AMA recommended rate or less.
